Self Portrait 1981

I focus on the idea of “public space” or more specifically on spaces where anyone can do anything at any given moment. As a starting point, I respond to the surrounding environment and its everyday experiences. Often these framed instances would go unnoticed in their original context. I search for new methods to “read the city”, trying to approach a wide scale of subjects in a multi-layered way.

By applying abstraction to my work, I strive to create intense personal moments in and out of the studio, luring the viewer round and round in circles. I create works in which the actual event sometimes really never happened.

In the studio, I use a conceptual approach to touch various overlapping themes and imagery. I try to make reoccurring subject matter recognizable such as the relationship to Pop Culture and media, with repetition and the investigation of the process of expectations.
